Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB Perpetual Use Rights

Dopo aver pubblicato l’articolo Adozione di Windows 10 e scelta tra Current Branch for Business (CBB) o Long-Term Servicing Branch (LTSB) ho avuto diversi feedback e confronti che hanno portato ad ulteriori approfondimenti. Un aspetto che in certi scenari può tornare utile è che Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB che può godere dei benefici Perpetual Use Rights.

Nel documento Guida ai contratti multilicenza per Windows 10 disponibile nella sezione Licensing dedicata a Windows 10 sul sito di Microsoft viene infatti riportato quanto segue:

“The use rights for Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB are perpetual for the licensed device at the point that Windows 10 Enterprise coverage ends (unless the Windows 10 Enterprise upgrade is acquired under a subscription license).

If Windows 10 Enterprise expires, the perpetual use rights will be for the LTSB that was current at the time that the Software Assurance coverage expired, as well as any past LTSBs.

Windows 10 Enterprise Per User does not have an underlying Windows Enterprise upgrade license with Software Assurance, therefore perpetual use rights are not granted.”

Quindi se un device è stato installato Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB in virtù del fatto che tale dispositivo era stato coperto da Software Assurance anche se la Software Assurance scade LTSB potrà continuare ed essere utilizzato alla versione che era attiva alla data della scadenza della copertura della Software Assurance (eventualmente possono anche essere utilizzate versioni precedenti di LTSB).

Si noti però che i Perpetual Use Rights non sono applicabile nelle seguenti condizioni:

• Il Windows 10 Enterprise upgrade è stato acquisito tramite una sottoscrizione e non tramite Software Assurance
• Windows 10 Enterprise è licenziato per user e non per device
